Ken McKay with the former Bus 3. The chassis is from the 1950’s with a body rebuild in 1983, after originally being aquired by Fearnes in 1973 from South Australia. On one occassion, when driven by the late Maurie King, the turbocharger collapsed and the fuel nearly caught alight. Maurie managed to park the bus accross from the bus depot and ordered the children to get off the bus quickly (he may have mentioned it was going to blow!). The bus will be on display this Sunday for any former students to relive their travelling habits to and from school in the twin town area.
The Harden Murrumburrah Truck & Tractor Show will be on at the Murrumburrah Showground this Sunday March 20th from 9:00am, with entry by donation. Setup for the event will take place on Saturday, with the event welcoming working trucks, buses, fire engines, military vehicles, tractors, stationary engines, and classic cars. There will also be food stalls, market stalls and indoor displays including model trucks, quilts and historic photographs. There is also a competition for kids for the best model truck or tractor made out of Lego or Meccano.
The event is third held by the Harden Historic Truck & Tractor Club, with the support of the Harden Murrumburrah Historical Society, and it has become increasingly popular despite its short history. “We should get a good crowd, despite everything being on this weekend,” said Kevin Sharp of the Harden Historic Truck & Tractor Club. The Kyabram Vintage Engine Rally and Mack Truck Muster in Victoria, the Lambing Flat Chinese Festival and Sydney Royal Easter Show are just three examples of those events taking place this weekend. The event is supported by HO-CL Premium Hydro-Syn Oils, Harden Bearings and Hardware, Harden Fuel Supplies, Shannons Insurance, Bendigo Bank Harden, and Vintage Trucks and Commercials Magazine.
