Dr. Ko-Chin Chen has returned to Harden.
The Kruger Medical Centre welcomes Dr Ko-Chin Chen to the staff, bringing the total number of doctors at the practice up to five. The 31 year-old is undertaking general practice training, and intends on going into cardiology and research. He is currently conducting research into Hirschsprung’s disease with Doctor David Croker at the Canberra Hospital. The genetic disease which affects every 1 in 500 live births, requiring surgical treatment at birth to prevent bowel obstruction. “We are interested in a sub set of Hirschsprung’s Disease,” said Dr Chen. “There are a lot of new studies coming out detailing cardiovascular disease, high risk mental retardation and lower immunity. We are testing to find out what causes the disease.” Dr Chen spent 12 years in Taiwan before moving to Canada, where his family still resides. He came out to Australia after 12 years in Canada. Although he has only been in Harden for two weeks, Dr Chen is no stranger to the town, having come out during Rural Week when he was a first year student at the Australian National University.
