Murrumburrah High School’s swimming carnival on Wednesday last week resulted in 14 records being broken, the largest by 18 seconds, with eight of the records being broken by one swimmer. Joey Polimeni set a new record for the 13 years boys 50m breaststroke, setting a time of 46.56 seconds. The previous record was 49.33 seconds. Jessica Bunt shaved 1.09 seconds off the old record in the 100m freestyle, with a time of 1 minute 22.28 seconds, whilst James Daley stoked sibling rivalry by beating his brother Ryan’s 14 years 40m butterfly by 1.81 seconds, with a time of 38.19 seconds.
Jakob Halls bested the previous 15 years 50m breaststroke time of 47.29 seconds by 2.02 seconds with a time of 45.27. Tara McGrath-West swam a time of a 48.78 seconds to beat the 15 years 50m breaststroke record of 49.53 seconds. In the Open Girls category, Katia Manton set a new record of 1 minute 22.28 seconds for the 100m backstroke, beating the previous record of 1 minute 23.37 seconds. Ryan Daley blitzed eight 16 years boys records on the day, shaving 18.28 seconds off the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1 minute 29.12 seconds. He also set records in the 100m backstroke (1 minute 26.93 seconds – 6.13 seconds off old record), 100m freestyle (1 minute 10.03 seconds – 6.74 seconds), 100m butterfly (1 minute 39.91 seconds – 14.62 seconds), 50m backstroke (36.33 seconds – 5.11 seconds), 50m freestyle (30.12 seconds – 0.39), 50m butterfly (36.13 seconds – 6.62 seconds), and 50m breaststroke (37.00 seconds – 8.76 seconds).
