Harden now has a new outlet to show off its talents, with the opening of a new art gallery in Albury Street by Heidi Guttormsen.
‘Heidi’s Hut’, at 128 Albury Street in Harden, showcases affordable pieces of art by local artists such as Christine Jurd and Terry Howe, as well as by Heidi herself. There is so much artwork in the gallery that even parts of the ceiling are being used to display pieces.
Heidi has been painting since she was the age of 12, but since she retired and moved to Harden from Canberra four years ago, she has had more time to pursue her passion.
“I had always planned it this way because I love it,” she said.
She won First Prize at the Murrumburrah Harden Springtime Show in 2015, and also won a blue ribbon at the Yass Show in the same year.
Heidi said that she “loves Harden very much,” and her daughter Amanda and grandchildren Kevin, Amelia and Claudia have all moved down to Harden from the Central Coast.
In addition to artwork, Heidi wants the gallery to be an opportunity for others to sell their produce, whether it’s handmade or hand grown. “If anyone has, for example, apricots growing in their backyard, we want them to be able to come in and sell them,” said Heidi’s daughter, Amanda. “That way, there is always something new.”
For anyone who is interested, there is a fresh harvest of rhubarb available for purchase.
The gallery is open Friday to Sunday, 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
