Joan Lemaire, Vice-President of the NSW Teachers’ Federation, and
well-respected Murrumburrah High School teacher, Jean Chapman. Jean received Life Membership at a dinner at the Light Horse Hotel on Tuesday.
Jean Chapman, a teacher at Murrumburrah High School, has been honoured with life membership in recognition of her years of service as Teachers’ Federation Representative and also Treasurer of the local Teachers’ Federation Association. Jean was given the award at a dinner on Tuesday evening at the Light Horse Hotel restaurant. Senior Vice-President of the Federation, Joan Lemaire, travelled from Sydney to make the presentation, accompanied by Waine Donovan, the Regional Officer. Jean’s colleagues thanked her for her hard work and support over the years and also for her efforts to build up the membership numbers, ensuring that teachers have access to good advice and necessary security whilst carrying out their duties. The Federation also provides Professional Development for all teachers with an emphasis on supporting the New Scheme teachers in their first few years in the profession. Jean has enjoyed her time as Federation Representative and would recommend the position to others as it leads to a deeper understanding of the rights and responsibilities of teachers. She feels very humbled to be singled out with this award and feels that she was only supporting her colleagues.
