Charlie Butt doing his best David Campese ‘Goose Step” on Thursday.
The Light Horse Hotel trampled the Electric Septics, with the latter allowing in six tries during the game. Will Manwaring drew first blood, with his brother Riley following up with one of his own. Jayke Hogan and Sarah Murry snuck in one each, with Matt Murray sneaking in two of his own. Unfortunately for the Electric Septics, Molly Spackman’s double was not enough to get things going for them. Light Horse Hotel 13 Electric Septics 4.
The Hotel Binalong Boozers went down by one point to Jackson’s Bakery in a very close affair. Dylan Arabin scored the three pointer, with Dane Howard scoring the Boozers only other try. Harrison Hadley and Trent Jackson scored one each, and Jamie Cantrill’s vigorous charging of gaps in the defence earning one of his own. The Boozers were one pork pie short of a win, with Jackson’s Bakery winning 6 points to 5.
The Harden Pharmacy Red Devils stuck the pitchfork deep into Fit ‘n Well, who were only able to post two tries to the Devil’s five. The younger generation dominated the point scoring, with Phoebe Lenehan, Jesse Glover and Ned Hufton scoring for the Red Devil’s, and Talai Vasquez crossing for Fit ‘n Well. Fit ‘n Well’s Brenden McKay scored for the generation that grew up with Monkey Magic, and new father Brad Cavanagh and Ellen Green chalked up one each to make the score 11-4 to the Devils.
It was a hard, hard game between Hard Rock Gym 2 and Hard ‘n Fit, with Joie Whybrow putting on the first points for the former. Johnno Nicholls scored a double flying down the wing, and James Collins crossed down the right hand side for one of his own. But youth couldn’t trump experience, as a double to Jon McGrath, Ben Luke and a try to Chris Hocking seemed to prove. A try to Jess Sargent put the final nail in the coffin, and Hard ‘n Fit took the game 12 to 9.
Jordan Menz’s first try out of his two for Delta proved to be the difference in its game between ABC Freighters, with Delta winning the game 9 to 8. The average height of the try scorers for Delta would be at least 6’2, with Simon Doolan and Billy Bolger crossing the line for one each. Cara Phillis bagged a double in the match for ABC Freighters, and Isabelle Forman notched one up of her own. A try was also scored by Tom Stewart, but that all important first try proved to be the difference, as it has done in many games so far in the competition.
Johnno’s Painting whitewashed Kennett Rural, with two players from Johnno’s scoring triples in the game. Justin Stewart and D. Clarke scored six tries between them, with Justin scoring the first of the game. Rodney Cooper carved himself a choice cut of the action, bringing Johnno’s up to 15 points. Lenehans dominated the try scoring for Kennetts, with Gus, Sam and Emily scoring one each. Corey McCoy was the only other try scorer, with the game finishing at 15-8 to Johnnos.
Ben Logue scored all the points for The Originals in the game with Thomspons Rural, with the Originals only able to post five points. Thompsons ran in five ties to successfully fence in The Originals, who were unlucky to score a third time when a try was disallowed. D. Young, M. Ryan, Ben Glover and Hannah Phillis were the try scorers for Thompsons, who were successful running the ball in close to the try line. The game finished with Thompsons winning 10 points to 5.
The game between Demondrille Merinos and the Jugiong Jackasses was a riveting one. The two lines were well spaced out, with the word ‘forfeited’ written beautiful and legibly, with a slight upward curve on the ‘d’, between them. Marvellous penmanship indeed.
The temptation to delve into bowel related humour is quite difficult to fight right now, as Got the Runs posted seven tries to Twomeys Wii Not Fit two. T. Dumbrell and M. Smith offered solid resistance with their tries for Twomeys, but it was all runny… sorry, I mean running…in the other direction. Tom Foster scored the first try for Got the Runs, which opened the floodgates for Martin Brown, Dan Cowden and Harry Forsyth, with Jeff Brown managing to push out three tries of his own. Got the Runs won the game 15 to 4.
Tayla Gaudie opened the account for the Bindon Bruisers, who must have thought they were on canteen duty again as they served sausage sandwiches for the second time this season. The Bruisers posted four tries in their defeat of the Binalong Bangers, who were only able to respond with one try by Max Giles. Lane Gaudie scored a double, with Ben Davis contributing with one of his own to win the game 9 points to 2.
Beautifully drawn pictures of horses adorn the scorecard for the match between DPM Fitness and Smashing Cherries. The first try was scored by Blane from DPM, with Sandy following suit. Dean McGrath ran in three tries for the side. It was a family affair for Smashing Cherries, however, with three Parkers running in the team’s three tries. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to salvage the game, going down 11 points to 6 to DPM Fitness.
There wasn’t much defence going on in the game between Robert Scott Electrical and Hard Rock Gym 1, although it was a close one. Ryan Daley scored three tries for Robert Scott, with Chris Whybrow following up with a double and Rex Scott with one of his own. But the ladies of Hard Rock Gym, with the exception of Stu Bradshaw with his two tries, dominated the game. Rhiannon Mackie, Rowena Bradshaw and Crystal Byrne scored two each, with the latter two ladies scoring their very first tries of the season. The game finished in relief for Hard Rock Gym, who won the game 16 to 13.
Props were playing like five-eighths in this game between the Romani Wranglers and the GTH Hornets. It provided some glorious photos, and Charlie Butt demonstrated the grace and agility of Anna Pavlova in challenging the line, which earned him two tries. Ben Coster chalked up a triple, including the first try of the match, followed by a double to Loren Daley, and a try each to Jess Hine and Harry Bunt. Jacob from GTH Hornets put the Hornets on the scoreboard in a game that finished 19 points to 2 to the Wranglers.
It was the clash of the clashing, with the red of the Retro Café taking on the red of the Young Guns. Unfortunately for the latter, it was the scorecard that separated the teams, with nine tries being run in by Retro to the Young Guns’ three. Matt Schofield scored three tries, and Hayley Chesworth posted a double for the Retro Café, with her father Scott joining her with one of his own. John Hill and Aiden Hill ran in one each, and Riverina representative Clem Flanery was not be outdone by crossing the line herself. Ellie M, Lochie H and Oscar F put up some resistance by posting their own tries for the Young Guns, but the game finished 18 points to 7 to the Retro Café.
Players are reminded to fill out the scorecards to the best extent that they can, preferably with full names. Awesome drawings are encouraged.
