A bad smell has been the cause for concern outside of the National Australia Bank (NAB) in Neill Street, and it is not being caused by the bank’s reduction in business hours. Council has received several complaints about bad odours emanating from a stormwater pit located at the front of the premises, with a remotely operated camera detecting heavy cracking in a century-old stormwater pipe running under Neill Street. Staff have recommended to Council that funding for the upgrade of Bathurst Street and Albury Street be redirected to facilitate the installation of a structural liner within the damaged pipe. The operation is estimated to cost $35,000.00, and has been installed in up to two kilometres of piping throughout the Shire already. The project would be conducted in the 2015/2016 Financial Year, with the Bathurst Street and Albury Street upgrades to be pushed back into 2016/2017 Financial Year if Council re-votes the funds at its November Business Meeting on November 18.
