The Right Reverend Trevor Edwards, Vicar General and Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, came to Murrumburrah on Sunday to deliver the good news to the parish.
The Anglican Parish of Harden Murrumburrah will be welcoming a new Reverend in December this year after Bishop Edwards made an announcement at Sunday’s church service on the weekend. David Rajasekaram and wife Rachel will be moving in to the refectory before the end of the year and the newly married couple will be making Murrumburrah their home. David grew up in Canberra in a deeply committed christian family who worshipped at St Matthew’s in Waniassa. From an early age, David was fascinated by the Biblical story of Samuel being dedicated to God. David’s father said “Yes one day you may become a minister if its God’s will.”
David went on to attend Narrabundah College and gained early entry in to the Australian National University. He is a keen Pianist and gained a Diploma in Music with Distinction and worked for a time as a self-employed music teacher. David spent some time in his youth away from the church, however, when he returned and as a result of a sermon, he made a commitment to have faith in Christ. He went on to grow in his faith and served the church principally through its music ministry. David has also spent time working as a disability support worker learning to care for people with intellectual and physical challenges, and often behavioural issues. After the sudden death of his father during his university studies David decided to follow his childhood dream.
He enrolled to study theology at St Mark’s and began training for the ministry. He gained experience at Gunghalin Anglican Church, under the supervision of reverend Michael Dasey. During this time he gained experience in leading services, preaching, baptismal and confirmation preparation and in youth and children’s ministry. He also starting a Sunday morning Christian Education programme at a local school. David married Rachel in December 2014. David said he and Rachel are keen to accept the new challenge to leave Canberra to come to Murrumburrah Harden Parish. David would like to reignite his passion for cricket and is hoping to join the Hornets in the Yass competition. Thanks must go to Brad Thorsby, and Barbara and Jim Granger for their constructive engagement in the process of David’s appointment to Murrumburrah.
