After meeting at a 21st birthday party in Young, Pat married Carmel Golding in 1958 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Young. “I was the youngest in the family but the first to get married,” said Pat. “But I seemed to encourage my siblings to follow.” Not long after, Pat’s brothers Don and Jack were married. Pat & Carmel’s wedding was followed by a honeymoon to Lord Howe Island. Due to bad weather, the newlyweds got to spend a couple of more days on the island before they endured a rough ride back to the Mainland on a Catalina Flying Boat. The couple lived at the ‘Springfield’ property until their current home ‘Glenbrook’ was completed. At the property they established gardens as well as sheds for 7,000 laying fowls and a 50 sow piggery.
