The Harden Hawks Rugby League Club celebrated 40 years in existence in 2014 and has seen some greats pass through the playing and administration ranks during those four decades. Roles such as playing, supporting and barracking, manning the gates or helping in the food stalls or kiosks are crucial to maintaining football in small towns.
Especially when jobs and young men and women can be scarce. In the 1970s the Harden Hawks were ably assisted by Reg Cullen (Snr) and in the 80s and 90s his son Reg Cullen (Jnr). In recent years, another Cullen has left his mark on the club and continues to do so.
Kevin (Loaf) Cullen has worked tirelessly in the Hawks kiosk, on the committee and proven to be a clubman for many years. Kevin’s father and brother are both life members of the club and Kevin joined them on Saturday night when he was awarded his Life Membership of the Harden Hawks Rugby League Football Club by Jamie Cantrill.
Kevin has forever been indebted to Jamie who helped save his life on Grand Final Day at 2009 at Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan. Jamie used his CPR training to help save Kevin when he suffered a heart attack in the car park after the Hawks beat the Bungendore Tigers. Congratulations Kevin!
