The Harden Murrumburrah Historical Society will be holding an Open Garden Day on October 4 to raise money for the relocation of Order of Australia Medal recipient, Brian Dunn’s military museum to Murrumburrah.
A $50 ‘Buy a Brick’ campaign to raise funds is also ongoing. Entry for the gardens will be by donation, and they will be open between 10:30 am and 4:00 pm with balloons marking the participating properties. The gardens include ‘Hillview’ at 12 Allan Street in Cunningar, belonging to Lorraine & Michael Brown, a parkland garden where refreshments will be available. Neville & Aileen Alcorn will be opening the gates of ‘Linden View’ on the Burley Griffin Way, and will also be offering sulky rides. Gwen Whybrow’s cottage garden at 56 Clarke Street will be open, which contains a model of her grandfather’s stone cottage which still stands at Wilpenna Pound in South Australia. Brian Dunn’s Military Museum on Jellambi Road will be open to visitors, showcasing a collection of military memorabilia, ranging from the Boer War to recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The proposed move will allow more visitors to see the Museum, and give the Harden Murrumburrah Historical Society to expand the range of its collections. Donations can also be made for the move of the Museum to the Harden Murrumburrah Historical Society Museum in Murrumburrah by ‘Buying a Brick’ for $50.00, or by contacting Lorraine Brown at West End Gift Shop in Neill Street on 63 862 555.
