Harden’s Luke Thurkettle fends off Yass’ Shauny Davis in today’s loss to the Yass Magpies. Yass 22 Harden 10.

The Harden Hawks have been knocked out of the George Tooke Competition after a second half fight back from the Yass Magpies.

The Hawks were first to score through their Half-Back Nathan Schofield. The wind pushed the conversion attempt outside the uprights and the score remained at 4-0. It wasn’t long before Schofield went in again and Jones made sure of it. Josh Quinn was all but robbed of a try after Schofield chipped to his wing. The video of the match will tell the story when it is sent from Canberra head office. This left the score at 10-0 at half time.

Matt Scofield had a massive game and kept the Hawks in it working well from the back with Andrew Jones taking high balls and returning the ball with gusto.

With a massive injury toll it was always going to be hard for the locals in the second half. Yass walked out of the shed with Magpies Captain, Brad Wylie giving the thumbs up to the Twin Town Times Photographer as he passed. The feeling was that he knew something the rest of the crowd didn’t and he was right. The Hawks jogged out and looked the part however some of the adrenalin that had carried them through the first half looked to have worn off. Wylie and his men set about taking the Hawks apart in the second stanza.

The Hawks couldn’t contain Shauny Davis who scored 2 excellent tries.

Handling errors and penalties were again the flavour of the game and the Hawks looked to have a chance to get back to even terms if only they could get a converted try. Yass however went in again and when Wylie kicked the conversion it was Yass 22-Harden 10.

In the last 3 years Harden has made two Grand Finals and been knocked out in a Semi Final. The Harden Lads played today with injuries to shoulders, ribs, rib cartilage, knees, sternums and a cracked jaw. Well done to our local lads who played with such courage.

We wish the Yass Magpies the best against the Bungendore Tigers next Saturday.
