Murrumburrah Public School Captains Hayley Chesworth and Mitchell Brown with Harden Shire Mayor John Horton and Community Hero Award recipient, Sam Flanery, at the MPS offices on Wednesday morning.
Samantha Flanery has had her 14 years of service to Murrumburrah Public School (MPS) recognised as part of Education Week celebrations at the school this week. The celebrations have also acknowledged the outstanding improvement of students in their academic studies. Harden Shire Council Mayor, John Horton presented the award to Samantha, who is on the School Council and was President of the P&C for nearly a decade.
“It’s been great seeing the school grow,” said Samantha. “The unbelievable dedication of the staff has gone above and beyond what’s required.” “The students are beautiful kids from a wide range of families, and the school is ably led by Clare Crawford,” she added. The staff at MPS were quick, however, to ensure that modesty didn’t get in the way of the truth. “She’s a star. She has been an inspiration since her children started here in Kindergarten,” said Michelle Howe. “She can never get a big enough wrap.”
Samantha has also been involved in the highly successful Harden District Education Foundation (HDEF) since its inception in 2002. “When we first started we had 8-10 kids from the town going to university. Now there is 25-30 going,” she said. Sam was also ecstatic about the performance of the school students, with seven students given awards for outstanding improvement. In addition, three students, Annie Brooke, Hayden McGuigan and Jordan Phelan received Distinctions in Technology after undertaking an exam conducted by the University of NSW. Their efforts placed the trio in the top seven percent of the state. MPS will be holding their Table 8 Event on the 8th of August, with the old bus signs from the Derby Street bus stops going up for auction. Tickets can be bought by contacting MPS on 63 862 209.
