Will Manwaring and Jared Prosser travelled to Coffs Harbour last week to play in the Secondary boys State touch carnival held at the Coffs Harbour International Sports Stadium. There they met up with former Murrumburrah High School student Jock Ward who was also selected from Yanco Agricultural High School. Ten teams from throughout the state participated in the carnival. Riverina’s first match was against Hunter, who eventually placed 2nd in the carnival. In a tight match Riverina went down 4 tries to 2. With only a short break Riverina then played Sydney East with Riverina winning 4-2. Their third match for the day was against Sydney North West with a 5 all draw being the result. The final match for the day was against Sydney West. Sydney West would become the winners of the carnival. It was a high scoring match with Riverina losing 8 tries to 5. On Wednesday Riverina had 3 games for the day the first against Sydney South West. Riverina played strongly and convincingly defeated South West 7 tries to 2. Matches against South Coast and Sydney North were close but did not go Riverina’s way losing 5-3 and 5-2 respectively. Needing to win their final two matches on the last day of the carnival for a possible finals match Riverina unfortunately lost to North Coast 7 tries to 3 but then won the match against country rivals Western 7-4. Throughout the tournament Jared played in the middle and Will was in the link position. To add some more competition to the carnival a relay and 100m sprint race was held. Riverina came 4th in the relay while Will came 2nd in the sprint race. The Riverina team came 7th overall which is a great result with a lot of new and younger boys in the squad this year.
