After riding tag-team for 24 hours straight, Team Snow raised $9,000 for Outrun Cancer. The team rode from 8:30am last Thursday to 8:30am the next day, which included Belinda Cooper, Zoe Cooper, Rodney Cooper, Mark Cooper, Patrick Quinn, Wendy Quinn, Emily O’Connor, Marnie Pobjie, Lynne Pobjie and Peter Pobjie.
The team rode in memory of late Harden lad, Jonte ‘Snow’ Pobjie, the beloved son of Peter & Lynne Pobjie, who died of cancer at the age of 19 in June, 2013. Jonte successfully battled with Osteosarcoma at the age of 17, before the cancer spread to his lungs in 2013. Jonte’s brave battle and selfless attitude has been an inspiration to all those who knew him, and the inspiration for the team itself.
The 24 hour effort was part of Outrun Cancer’s “Outrace Cancer” event, which sought to raise money for cancer prevention research.
“All of us stayed up for the entire 24 hours,” said Belinda Cooper. “It was good fun.”
“Lots of locals and others have donated or supported Team Snow, which is highly appreciated.”
The team had the support of family and friends, with Barry & Marcie Quinn, Helen Menz, Cate Minogue and Trish O’Connor making the trip up to Martin Place to cheer the team on. The team also received countless messages of encouragement on social media.
During the event, one man, Luca Turrini, ran on a treadmill for the entire 24 hours, running 210km in that time.
Overall, $90,000 was raised for Outrun Cancer to support cancer prevention research.
