NOTE: Change of venue to Mechanics Institute.
Free Special Screening of Peter Weir’s Gallipoli at the Mechanics Institute on 22 April.
Harden Shire Council will be showing a free screening of Peter Weir’s classic film ‘Gallipoli’ at the Mechanics Institute on Wednesday April 22. The screening will signal the commencement of the Centenary of Gallipoli commemorations to be held in the Harden Shire over the weekend.
The film is rated PG which means it can be viewed by families, adults and children. Set down for a 6.30 pm start, a sausage sizzle as well as cans of soft drink will be sold with profits going to local Legacy representatives.
Temperatures have started to get colder over recent weeks, so spectators are asked to bring warm clothing, a picnic rug or chair to sit on and a blanket to view the film.
The film centres around a promising track star’s running career which is interrupted by Australia’s entrance into World War I. ‘Archie’ is an excellent candidate for the Olympics but nonetheless abandons his athletic pursuits in order to do the patriotic thing and sign up to join the ill-fated, true-to-life attempt to capture Istanbul from the might of the Turkish army.
