Hawkettes show them how its done
The Bendigo Bank Harden Hawkettes have shown that a change in code hasn’t affected their talent base. The local ladies were brilliant on the weekend in Yass, taking out the Yass 9s Tournament held at Walker Park.
The Hawkette’s played Yass in their first game, resulting in a nil all draw, in a very wet first game. The girls then played Bungendore in the second game, winning 8-4 against a pretty handy Bungendore side. They then played ADFA, steamrolling them in a 24-0 victory. The girls then defeated Yass 4-0 in the Grand Final, with Emily Quinn scoring the winning try.
The stand out players at the tournament were Jess Doolan, Emma James, Page Potts, Shauny McEvoy, and Emma Manwaring, who scored a length of the field try against ADFA.
Hawks on the improve
The Harden Hawks had mixed fortunes at the Yass 9s tournament at Walker Park on Saturday. The team travelled to Yass to play in the tournament, which gave a good indication of the level of competition the Hawks will face in this year’s George Tooke Shield.
The Hawks had an unlucky first game against Yass, with the Hawks going down after Yass scored a try at the full-time siren. But the Hawks kept improving as the day went on, defeating both Bungendore and Boomanulla, before meeting Yass in the Semi Final.
The Hawks were defeated by Yass 8-4, with Yass being defeated by ADFA 16-8 to win the tournament in the Final.
“ADFA looked to be the stronger side of the tournament,” said Club President, Jason Pollard. “They are a welcome addition to the competition.”
The Harden Hawks play their first game of the season against Yass at McLean Oval on Saturday the 2nd of May. The Hawkettes will play at 2:00pm, with the Hawks kicking off at 3:00pm.
