Those following the rub of Zorro’s Crystal Ball would have collected with all 5 Grand Final matches going the way of last week’s predictor – maybe the lotto numbers next time.
The Grand Final results – E Grade: Slow Motion 4 too strong for The Originals 2. D Grade: The Carrington 5 outclassed Electric Herefords 0. C Grade: Electric Septics 2 snuck home over Maddens Cold Store 1. B Grade: Delta 3 vs GTH Hornets 2 in a close one. A Grade: Hotel Binalong Boozers 4 gained bragging rights over the Twin Town Times Light Horse Hotel Horsemenmen 2.
As expected the emergency services crew of ‘Slow Motion’ pulled together in a crisis to outshine their opponents ‘The Originals’ in an exciting E grade GF to kick the night off. A mixture of try scorers got over the line for slow motion with Jeremy Martin doing his best for his squad as he crossed the line twice for ‘The Originals’.
In the corresponding D Grade game, Josh Quinn & Jonah Potts stood tall against all others as they were the main playmakers against a depleted Herefords Herd who were tied up at the Royal Easter Show. Credit to the Herefords for hanging in until the end to ensure that the game never got away from them. The as in-form Carrington kept on rolling all night, as they have done all competition.
The C grade Final was closer than many thought with the young guys from Maddens holding their much experienced opponents, Electric Septics right until the full time siren. Shannon McCullagh and Austin Grace have been the form players for Madden’s all year and didn’t disappoint in the Final. For the Septic’s, as always Todd got in and did the dirty work and got son Max to help in in the trenches to secure their victory.
B grade was much closer than many had anticipated with the game in the balance right up until fulltime. Well lead by Dean McGrath, the Hornets held on well against the experience of Pollard, Doolan & Lucas who set-up Menz & Bolg for many plays – as always Jessica Doolan made the difference when she ran on and sealed the deal with a great try.
Finally everyone turned their attention to the much awaited Harden vs Binalong A grade final. The Squad from Hotel Binalong looked the goods right from kick off as they strode in 2 quick tries. The Horsemen got back on track and rode in a couple of their own to even the match up. Luke Brown showed that he hadn’t lost the yards a few spectators though father time may have stolen when he chased and caught Dylan Arabin in a length of the field effort.
In the end, Binalong were too strong with Dylan Arabin starring for them, scoring an excellent diving try splitting the defence to stun the Light Horse side. Johnny Hill and Luke Brown showed all of their experience however the Boozers led by Jason Howard and Chris Rawlinson were too strong.
The sprint races were all very close with Mitchell Brown claiming the $50 prize in the Junior Category for the 3rd year on the trot. Maddison Douglass held off her sister to cross the line first for the ladies to take home the Twin Town Times Ladies title and $100 cash. Bolg and George Elliott paced it out to race home in the ‘seriously over’ 50’s event and the race of the night was a 3 way tussle right to the 100 metre line with Tyler Allen, too good for Will & Riley Manwaring to take the $100 cash in the Coopers Butchery Open sprint title for 2015.
