The Harden-Murrumburrah community came out in strength for the Walk 4 Brain Cancer event held in Canberra on Sunday. Over 50 locals made the trek to the ACT to participate in the 2km walk and to offer their support to the ‘Bash Up Boys’, who undertook a great physical challenge.
The ‘Team Harden/Jugiong’ fundraising page has received over 76 donations up until the time of print, as well as other donations given outside of the website. A new target of $25,000 was set after the initial target of $2,500 was surpassed in just a number of hours. The current website figure stands at $5,208 with 349 days left to reach the new target of $25,000.
The passing of Greg Whitehead and Craig Coggan’s ongoing battle with Brain Cancer has resonated with the townsfolk of Harden-Murrumburrah and Jugiong.
It was an early start for family and friends, who left on buses to travel to the inaugural Walk 4 Brain Cancer event in the region. Over fifty adults and children sported purple shirts, the colour of the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
Participation in the walk this year was prompted by the recent loss of Greg Whitehead, who was regarded as a loving partner, father and friend by so many.
Craig Coggan continues to battle the awful disease and celebrated his 50th birthday on the weekend with family and friends. Although wet, the day was a great success and enjoyed by all. It was made extra special by the Bash Up Boys successfully completing their challenge of two kilometres of continuous burpees.
Organisers of the day made special mention to the Harden/Jugiong team walking for Greg and Craig, as it was the largest team in participation and all were impressed with the extra effort put in by Scott Chesworth, Danny Flanery, Adam Wade and Glen Howe.
A special thankyou to Anna Henman for the hours of work she put in organising registrations, shirts and buses. Thank you to ABC Freighters, Peter Joseph and the Harden School’s Community bus for making it possible for the team to get there as a group.
At present the total of $6,000 has been raised for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation by family, friends and the wider community through face-to-face donations and via the website. Donations can still be made by accessing the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation website and searching: ‘Chesworth, Team Harden/Jugiong’, or in person to Wendy Chesworth, Min Chesworth or Megan Beal.
