Whilst enjoying a Pony Club Dressarge clinic at Murrumburrah Showground sand arena Brittanny Grovenor, on her horse Bliss Grande Rouge aka Red, endured a freak accident where her horse bucked and she was knocked unconscious. She actually managed to stay on her horse for a period of time before falling to the ground.
The unconscious Brittany was taken to Harden Hospital suffering left side paralysis. She was transferred to Wagga Base Hospital and then air lifted to St. George Hospital for assessment by the spinal trauma and neurological teams. She was disappointed not to have had a chopper ride but travelled by plane to Sydney.
Brittanny has spent most of her time in hospital trying to talk the doctors into allowing her to participate at another Andrew Hoy Clinic this week end a 3 day Heath Ryan Clinic next weekend. However, those plans will have to be put on hold for the near future as the doctors have ordered plenty of rest and only walking in the interim future.
She will be unable to ride for a period of time to allow full neurological recovery. Brittanny plans to attend the clinics as a spectator and learn as much as she can whilst sporting her new fashion accessory, a neck brace.
Brittanny and her family would like to thank the medical staff at all three hospitals, plus ambulance staff, both road and air for their care and attention during this very stressful period.
She would also like to thank Harden Pony Club members and friends who rallied together to take care of all the horses and return them to home. Events such as this make us appreciate the small town we live in and the equestrian community, where everyone is quick to lend a hand.
