Last Friday adventurers Ken and Joyce Tuckey made their way through Harden as they complete an incredible 25,000 kilometre trek around Australia in a Sonalika tractor to raise money for CareFlight, Kid’s Cancer Research Trust and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. The couple were highly visible in their bright blue tractor and their camel wagon.
They have a long history of fundraising efforts from walking a herd of camels across the Simpson Desert to Alice Springs and walking camels across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Ken has walked a bull to Beef Week and ridden thousands of kilometres on an all terrain vehicle across the Nullarbor plains.
This latest adventure/fundraising effort wrapped up at the Irish Woolfest (Running of the Sheep) in Boorowa on the weekend. Ken who is 76 years of age shows no signs of slowing down saying while he can help he will.
“It is always good to help and we love the people we meet along the way,” Ken said.
With a fundraising goal of $50,000 he is well on his way. Harden IGA assisted the couple with some discounted groceries for their journey. The tractor has stopped in towns and villages along the way to collect donations for the charities they support.
Ken said “It has a top speed of 30 kilometres per hour on the flat and about 12 kilometres per hour in second gear uphill.” He said at the speed we go you get to see a lot of beautiful country, we enjoy it and it’s for a good cause.
The Tuckeys, for their next journey will be trekking from Port Augusta.
