The Quinn name is synonymous with Rugby League in the Harden area with Michael and his 3 younger brothers Chris, John and Sam all playing first grade for the Hawks over the last 4 decades.

Michael will continue a long and stellar career that began in the U9s when his side beat the Young Panthers in the 1977 Grand Final. 10 years after that appearance he played first grade under Robert Anderson. He continued to play for the Hawks until 1991 when he went to Western Australia to play for the Canning Bulldogs who took out the premiership that year and was also selected to play for the Western Australian State squad against NSW Country.

After returning from WA he went on to play for the Hawks from 92 to 2001 representing Group 9 in 94, 95 and 98 as well as Captain/Coaching the Hawks in 97 and 98. During the 98 season he was also Captain/Coach of the South West Pacers in the Kelly Cup. In 1997 he was selected in the Group 9, 1st Grade side of the year. During 2001 he won the Eric Weissel Medal in the Hawks Reserve Grade side and he has also been a Group 9 selector.

Michael’s experience in Rugby League during this time will no doubt have a postive affect on the Harden Hawks side in 2015. He will take over from Captain/Coach Luke Brown who managed to coach the side to 2 consecutive Grand Final appearances in 2013 and 14.

Brown said he is looking forward to playing under Mick in 2015. He said “I want to thank all of the boys for a great year we did well to get there, two years in a row”.

Club President Jason said he would like to thank Luke for his effort over the last two seasons and the fact that he managed to improve the sides performances over the two seasons highlighted his skill.

When asked what plans Mick had for the team he said, “I want to keep as many locals as possible, the Hawk’s squad is made up mostly local talent and I want to take them to a Grand Final win.

When asked if he was thinking of pulling on the boots himself he said, “I won’t be” however he said, “I would like to see Chris Hocking fit and at training.”

There is still some uncertainty at the make up of next year’s comp, however that will not deter the Hawks from putting together a side that will hopefully make its 3rd Grand Final in a row and 3rd time lucky, for the township.
