Many residents of Galong are upset and angry at confusing information porporting that a rehabilitation facility may commence operations in the un-used former St Lawrence retirement village building in the town.
Dr Tim O’Neil of Dixon in Canberra addressed the Galong Progress association on Thursday night and many residents feel confused and misinformed after the presentation.
Local resident Joan Taylor said “We have no emergency services here and it takes an hour for police to come from Cootamundra.”
The town is mostly made up of elderly residents. She said that if a rehab centre is established in Galong it may cause flow-on problems for surrounding towns such as Binalong and Harden.
Taylor said, “Its the wrong place for the type of facility and Dr O’Neill is not returning calls on the matter.”
Harden Shire Council has been contacted by a group wishing to discuss a possible change of use for the building. Mr O’Neill has not returned calls made by the Twin Town Times at the time of printing.
