The Harden District Education Foundation held their major fundraiser for 2014 when over 150 guests made the journey to the Garangula common rooms to hear well known speaker and radio broadcaster Alan Jones AO on Friday night 29 August.
Alan spoke at length on the importance of education. He said that children are not always being educated to their full potential these days. He did not place the blame on parents, schools or teachers but felt that it was a societal problem across the board. He said “kids don’t write anymore”.
Alan addressed the crowd and mentioned other topics such as Tony Abbott’s leadership and spoke very positively of the Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor. He said that he felt rural issues are not always addressed in the political arena.
The local community got behind the event helping the foundation raise approximately $50,000 from the evening which will now go towards assisting local children with furthering their education.
