Bill started his butchery apprenticeship in 1958. He worked with Terrys, Joneses and Wards. He and Geoff Walsh owned the Harden Butchery for many years.

Bill has always been known for his friendly manner, greeting his customers every day and his great sense of humour.

He said that he remembers in his early days what a huge day railway payday used to be. As the railway workers would come in and “fix up the credit and then make their purchases for the next week”.

Bill plans on continuing working with Tobin’s Transport and on his farm where he runs several hundred head of sheep.

Except for about 10 years when Bill spent time travelling around Australia, building with Fred Absolom or sheering, Bill has spent the rest of the time serving the community in the local butchery.
