On Saturday 26 September the ladies from the Harden CWA held their 2026 Springtime High Tea and it was a great success despite numbers being down on last year’s event. Our focus was to highlight the CWA’s Awareness Week campaign of Rural Health, what is missing and what is needed and our attendees were all provided with information and recipe cards.
For this event we had decided to provide the opportunity for hospitality students from the local secondary schools and we had two lovely students from Hennessy College come to help us for the day and what a sterling job they did!
This High Tea the Harden CWA again focused their fundraising activities on raising money for The Farm which is located in Galong. The Farm in Galong is a residential drug and alcohol service for women that operates on the Therapeutic Community method of rehabilitation and is designed to assist women to remain permanently free from addiction. Kate Cleary, their CEO gave us a very informative talk about the operations of The Farm. More information about the Farm in Galong can be found on their website www.thefarmingalong.org

The attendees were treated to a delicious afternoon tea starting with a glass of punch, sandwiches and hot food. As always, the CWA’s famous scones with jam and cream didn’t disappoint and were served alongside delicious and artfully prepared little cakes, tarts and slices. It all looked too good to eat! What was left over was boxed up and quickly sold off.
We had decided to simplify our efforts this time and not hold a raffle, though we will be holding a raffle during the course of next year. Keep an eye out for our social media posts about this.
The Harden CWA branch is always looking for new members though we have been fortunate to have some new members join and we even have two junior members. Whilst the branch membership is small, it is a vibrant part of the community. Why not call in at their rooms at 116 Neill Street, Harden on a Friday between 10am and 12noon to enjoy a delicious Devonshire Tea for a token amount of $2. They have three rooms filled with beautiful hand made craft items as well as shelves groaning with delicious jams, marmalades, relishes and chutneys. Their rooms are open 9am to 1pm on a Friday. If you would like one of our recipe cards, please call in at our rooms to collect one.
If you are looking for a venue for a birthday party, funeral wake, christening or even a lunch, the branch’s Secretary can be contacted on 0407 920 585 for further information.
