Harden may have seen more than a few yellow friends traipsing around the community as Flexi Care took to the streets for Community Book Week celebrations.
Although the wet weather meant the community was unable to join together at McLean Oval, spirits were far from dampened.
This year’s theme, ‘Symphony of Sounds’ was taken up by all community members and the planned events proceeded, despite the weather.
Members from Flexi Care participated by creating ‘Minions on the Move’.
The colourfully dressed characters completed book week craft activities in their rooms before rocking up at the Murrumburrah Public School.
Murrumburrah Public School teacher, Jess Cain, said the kids loved seeing the minions.
“That was amazing and the kids loved it,” she said.
A Flexi Care spokesperson said they thoroughly enjoyed showing off their dress-ups, enjoying lunch with the students and “celebrating the joy of books together”.
Following their school trip, the minions made a short visit to the Harden Nursing Home before making other several stops around town to spread “plenty of Minion cheer along the way!”
“From all of us at Flexi Care, a huge thank you to Ang for bringing together our fantastic costumes, creativity and fun. It certainly made for a memorable Book Week celebration!” said the spokesperson.
“A massive thank you to Erica and the Book Week Committee for continuing to highlight the significance of celebrating books, children and adults within our community.”
Although Murrumburrah Public School, Wombat Public School, Jugiong Public School, Bunyip Preschool, Trinity Catholic School and Murrumburrah High School were unable to join to celebrate book week together, individual celebrations till commenced.
Costume parades, barbecues and other events still proceeded, including the circulation of 200 lagerphones, handcrafted by the Harden Murrumburrah Men’s Shed for the students to decorate and perform with.
“A huge shout out to the men’s shed,” said Jess.
“That was the most successful activity across the board.”
The Murrumburrah Public School said the event was only successful due to the amazing and generous support they received from the Men’s Shed, Harden District Education Foundation, Harden Murrumburrah Regional Development Corporation, Community Bank, Supabarn Harden, Harden Commbank, Murrumburrah-Harden Rotary and Ziems Quality Meats.
“[A] thank you to our incredible committee,” the school said.
“[They] did so much work behind the scenes and managed to pivot at the last minute to ensure everyone could still enjoy a fantastic day.”
