Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a country like Nigeria?
It is a country much different to our own. It doesn’t have the same peace and safety that we in Australia share.
On Sunday, 30 August St Paul’s Anglican Church will be welcoming a family who have done just that. Martin and Lid Barley and their children Elias, Simeon and Arabella will join us to talk about the eleven years they have served as missionaries in a city in Nigeria.
St Paul’s church got to know the Barleys about twelve years ago when they attended a number of services while Martin’s father, the Rev’d Les Barley was serving in the parish as Locum. They talked to us about their plans to serve with Service in Mission (SIM) in Nigeria. Once they set out the parish has been helping them financially and with prayer. Regularly Martin has sent us letters telling us of the work they have been doing and how the family is coping. All this has helped to know how to pray for them. It also has challenged us in the ways we might contribute to the work they are doing.
Home on furlough, the Barley family are visiting parishes who have helped them over the years. In doing this it will help us to understand the nature of their ministry, and of the conditions in which they live along side the people to whom they are ministering.
