The Boorowa Goldies will head in to Saturday’s home Grand Final with the chance to pull off Back to Back Premierships against old foes the Harden Red Devils at the Boorowa Showground at 3:15pm.
The road between Boorowa and the twin towns was busy on Saturday with junior league seeing Harden youngsters head north east while the chance for Boorowa players and supporters to see who they would face in this Saturday’s Grand Final lured plenty a traveller over to Robert’s Park.
The Times caught up with Keagan Size, Boorowa Co-Coach and the stabilising Prop in a formidable forward pack.
Size said, “Harden contained them. Coota still played reasonably well, just the discipline wasn’t great.”
Size is preparing for a game where if it’s played tight, he will be in his element. Excelling at the set piece and in the rough stuff around the rucks, the aptly named Size and his fellow forwards will no doubt try to deter Harden’s pack and put the blow torch on a Devils eight desperate to get one over the strong Goldies side.

“We are pretty stock standard, lost one of our really good impact players who ruptured an Achilles.
When asked what Boorowa needs to do to get the win, Size said, “We can control the ball, don’t spill it, our discipline is sound. We are patient. We need to do those things well.”
Size conceded that this year’ side is quite different to last year’s but that the belief is there.
“I can tell you now we had a lot better team last year on paper than we do this year and I reckon the feeling is better. We’re just winners win. They know how to do it.”
“There’s so much belief around everyone in the squad that we can make it happen.”
Trust in each other will be the key for Boorowa.
“One hundred percent. Because if you can’t trust the bloke inside you, then you’re in two minds, and if you are in two minds then they are going to go through you. They’ll go through me anyway.”
He joked, “But they won’t go, they won’t go straight through, they get on the outside of me.
Boorowa’s set piece is pretty sound. It’s probably the best in the competition and harden will be trying to disrupt that.
“Harden has improved tenfold. They were pushing Coota off the ball on Saturday.”
Boorowa is ready for the pressure of a Grand Final.
“This is our third grand final in a row we’ve been in. Our third minor prem.”
When asked what is was about the four south west towns and Boorowa being a standout the last few years the Times looked at the population, which seems to hold little bearing on results.
So what is it about Boorowa, because out of the four towns, you are the smallest population wise, Harden slightly bigger. Coota is probably nearly double Harden and then Young’s 12 odd thousand.
What are you doing right?
“Just the club culture. Everyone turns up and enjoys themselves not just on the footy field, but off it. So they’ll have a beer, it’s inclusive, it’s all those sorts of things. It’s our Club culture, our sponsors, our older mentors.”
The game will be 3:15pm. The ladies play before then and that will be Grenfell against Temora. “There’ll be a huge crowd there, Boorowa, the town, the supporters and our sponsors.”
