The Rotary Club of Murrumburrah Harden is calling on the community to help make a difference—both locally and globally—through a unique fundraising project supporting Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign.
Club members have begun collecting small glass containers and succulent plants to create attractive miniature terrariums, which will be sold in the lead-up to World Polio Day on 24 October. The initiative not only raises vital funds but also helps spread awareness about Rotary’s long-standing commitment to eradicating polio worldwide.
Rotary members say the project is only possible because of the generosity of the local community. Donations of glass containers, succulent cuttings and plants are already beginning to arrive, and every contribution helps ensure that more of the proceeds go directly towards the fight against polio.
While Australia has been polio-free for decades, the disease has not yet been wiped out globally. Thanks to the work of Rotary and its partners, the number of wild polio cases has fallen by more than 99.9 per cent since 1988. Today, polio remains endemic in only two countries, but until it is eliminated everywhere, children everywhere remain at risk.
Every dollar raised helps fund life-saving vaccines, disease surveillance and rapid response teams working to protect children from this devastating disease. Through the support of local residents, Murrumburrah Harden can play a small but significant part in a worldwide effort that is closer than ever to achieving its goal.
The Rotary Club encourages anyone with suitable glass containers (under one litre in capacity) or small succulent plants to consider donating them. Together, our community can help bring the world one step closer to consigning polio to the history books.
