The Harden Hawks continued their perfect season in the 2026 George Tooke Shield with a commanding 60-12 thrashing of the University of Canberra Stars at McLean Oval on Saturday.
The ladder-leading Hawks, undefeated after 13 matches and sitting clear on top with a massive points differential, made light work of the Stars in the Canberra Region Rugby League second-division clash. Harden have now scored 545 points while conceding just 124 for the season, underlining their status as the clear team to beat.
Playing in front of their home supporters, the Hawks controlled the contest from the opening whistle and piled on the points against a UC Stars side that has managed only two wins this year.
The 48-point margin highlighted the difference between the competition pacesetters and one of the lower-ranked teams.
It was a successful day for the Harden club overall, as the Hawkettes also prevailed in their George Tooke Shield League Tag match against the UC Stars League Tag side. The Hawkettes, who sit atop the League Tag ladder after a strong campaign featuring high scoring and miserly defence, maintained their excellent form with another solid victory.
The dual wins keep both Harden sides firmly in control of their respective competitions as the regular season heads toward the finals. The men’s team remains the only undefeated side in the George Tooke Shield, while the Hawkettes continue to set the standard in League Tag.
The UC Stars and their League Tag counterparts will look to bounce back in the remaining rounds, while Harden turn their focus to maintaining momentum in the push toward finals series.
The Hawks and Hawkettes will head to Bungendore Tigers’ home ground this weekend to play a catch-up round (10) at Mick Sherd Oval with the Hawkettes game kick-off set for 1:15pm and the Hawks 2:30pm.
