The Trinity staff looked after the Canteen for Hawks’ Sponsor’s Day.
The Harden Hawks celebrated sponsor’s day in emphatic fashion winning both games against Crookwell.
Coach Nick Hall said, “We played Crookwell Green Devils who are coming third. They’re a pretty organised side. They’ve been unlucky, they’ve only lost to us and Bears. They are a good side, coached by Brian Gray and have some new players coming back, so they are a threat this year.
“We beat them in the 1st round over there and we beat them here pretty soundly. It turned into one of our better performances, 34 to 4, but it was a hard game.
We just consistently built points and built pressure and it was sort of done by 10 minutes into the 2nd half. It was only going one way, but they could have made a run for it and they were good enough and threatening all the way. We were just good defensively and offensively were very good.
“And to only have 4 points conceded, it means the defence is pretty good, which you need to win grand finals and the attack’s good as well. I’m really happy with that. It was just a missed tackle which wasn’t good.
“They had a few little moments where they threatened, but we scrambled well, we shut them down. If you look at the competition table, we’re on 92 points against, we aren’t conceding many points.
“We are the only team still under 100 points and you have to have good defensive to win comps.
Last year we had the best defensive record as well with something as a coach, something I’m proud of.
We didn’t have that in the first few years, and we’re aiming at it and we’re getting better at it. Our system is pretty tight now.
“We are not the biggest side by any means, we’re outsized most weeks, I would suggest.
Hall highlighted the team effort and mentioned the evergreen Jarrod Sharman as a standout.
“It was a real team effort. Sharmo who plays off the wing, I thought he played pretty well, some of the middles, Casey Wall was very good. Jayden was good. Jack Nicholls continues to score tries and be dangerous, and he threatened a number of times. Those guys were all pretty good. Big guys, Matt Holmes is really winning play the balls and Naku Simona, those two were both really good. Lots of good efforts.
Steve Anderson, Corey Lucas in the middle, they have just got fast legs, good instincts. They just start all the defensive speed and we’ve got a good balance right now of size and legs. We’ve got Naku and Holmsey doing some big hard stuff and we’ve got Steve and Corey in the middle really working hard and giving us speed and enthusiasm and resilience. And Browny is starting to find his feet fitness wise, he played pretty well on the weekend.”
“Our run home, we’ve got the bye this week and then we’ve got North Canberra, which is a hard one.
They win, they’ll tie us up top. If we win, we’re just about hard to catch a minor premiership. That’s in Canberra in two weeks. Then we’ve got Boorowa, UC and finish with Bungendore.
The Hawks have lost big, bad, bustling, Tyson Astill to a jaw injury, but the 2009 Grand Final veteran may be back if all heals well.
“Poor old Tyson, he’s got a broken jaw and a few infections and blockages, so he’s having a few issues, but, there’s still some chance that if we get further down the line, he could get a chance in the last few weeks.
“Will Hills played in the grand final two years ago after he went four or five weeks after breaking his jaw.
It’s not outside the realms.”
