It’s proven really valuable for Harden Murrumburrah’s children. Rotary are incredibly grateful to Bendigo Community Bank for their unwavering support – their generous funding allows Rotary to provide books to children from six months old at Bunyip Daycare and Preschool, all Primary School children at MPS, Trinity and Jugiong Schools, and Year 7 to Year 10 students at MHS.
Ev Shea, Chair of the Bendigo Bank Board who has been able to be present at the sessions, the session at Bunyip ably covered by Board Director Craig Nicholls. It has really added a special dimension to have the visible support of representatives of Community Bank Harden-Murrumburrah present at the book giving days.
Rotarians carefully added stickers to books, laminating and cutting out bookmarks to add to the book donation experience.
The delivery of books to MPS children, and Bunyip has been well received. Ev Shea and
Kirsty Edwards who came to the book giving, representing the Directors and staff of the Bank.
Bunyip Preschool children always look forward to choosing a book to take home and keep, and helps foster a love of reading from an early age.
Murrumburrah High School reported that earlier this term, staff were gifted new books, and this week students in both Stage 4 and Stage 5 were excited to receive brand new books of their own to enjoy and add to their personal collections. Programs like this help foster a love of reading across our whole school community, and we are incredibly grateful for Rotary’s ongoing generosity and commitment to supporting education and young people in our community. This is always a highly anticipated event on our school calendar and our students genuinely look forward to the opportunity each year.
Deliveries to Trinity Primary and Jugiong Primary were also well received; lots of photos taken.
The Rotary Book Program has been expanded this year to include the primary school in Binalong. Peter Minson (who joined Rotary in 1986) and his partner Lindsay MacDonald could also join in for the morning.
When delivering books to the Binalong Public School, Rotary took the opportunity to also provide books to the preschool students, thereby reaching an additional 50 children. Rotary would like to thank Renee Arabin, Principal of Binalong Public School, for facilitating their visit and inviting us to join in their biggest morning tea.
The total number of books delivered now stands at 620 for this semester.
