MHS Under 14’s Secure Huge Success at SWNSW Comp

The Murrumburrah High School Under 14’s rugby league team finished the South-West NSW Small Schools Competition on Tuesday undefeated, giving them a shot at being the champions of the competition.

The boys were absolutely dominant on their way to the final, recording two impressive victories:
Defeated Boorowa 26–0.
Defeated Tumbarumba 40–0.

The team now heads into the final, where they hope to prove Murrumburrah’s footy talent.
The Under 16s also put in a strong performance throughout the day, winning 2 of their first 3 games. They are currently playing their next match as they continue their campaign in the competition.

Alison Spencer, PE Teacher and coach, said that the school is incredibly proud.

“No one scored any points against them, which was really great. Our kids have made it to the next level, and we will know the schools and teams they’ll play closer to the date. If they win this next one, they’ll be the champions,” she said.

“I feel like it was really something that our school is happy to provide because we’ve got limited opportunities due to the size of our school, and we find it hard to field a lot of teams. When we can actually do this, it really helps the kids to build those leadership skills, teamwork skills, and really represent their school with pride. It’s really good to see them get out and participate since they don’t want to just be sitting in the classroom all day, every day; they want another outlet. Providing these opportunities is so rewarding not only for the kids but for the school as well.

“The Under 16’s played well too. They only had one sub, so that really made it a bit harder for them, but they also played really well considering that. They still won two games.”

Alison said some highlight players were Kobi Hocking, Josh Guy, Darby Abnett, and Charlie Prosser.

“It’s really exciting to see that a small school like us can see this success outside of school. It’s a positive vibe, and it’s really rewarding to see them succeeding.”

More information to come.
