Hawks Make Old Boys Proud At McLean

Ashley ‘Trogg’ Dyball and Joe Dyball both played for Harden with Ashley in Group 9 before moving north and Joe carving out a solid career in George Tooke.

The Harden Hawks are continuing on their winning ways with a hard fought 26-20 win over an improving Boorowa Rovers side at McLean Oval on Saturday.

The win came in front of a good old boys day crowd for the Hawks, with notable players on hand across the last 7 and 8 decades.

Nick Hall is building something special this year and it’s hoped the depth is there to get the job done.

Experienced and speedy Centre Riley Manwaring is still on the sidelines after an opposing player lifted a knee in the tackle leaving Manwaring in all sorts and out for a number of weeks.

One thing is for sure, Manwaring will be back at some stage, he is as tough as they come, he will just have to give his shoulder time to heal.

“It was a typical Harden/Boorowa tough game. I joke all the time. It’s like cats and dogs, Harden/Boorowa, brothers and sisters, they squabble and they always bring it.

“We were behind at half time. We jumped out to a lead, then they had all the possession. So it’s two halves of possessions, they had all the ball in the first half and on the back of some fatigue we had a couple of soft misses and they scored two good tries.

“Then in the second half we got all the ball or got more ball, got an even share of ball and we got the points, so we won the second half.

“It was a pretty good game, pretty simple. Nothing too fancy. They just attacked each other. The two sides just went hard at each other. It was a good win for us because we had six fellas out, so we were pretty glad to get through that one and welcome those guys back into the side in the next few weeks.

“It was old boys day as well. It was good. That is what sport is about, their friendships that last forever and those guys got to revel in those friendships.

“They had a long day and cheered the girls and the boys on and came in to our sheds and sung the song and I’m sure a lot of them celebrated through the night as well.

“They had a good night. It was a good time and the girls got a good 32-2 win as well over Boorowa.

“This week we play Googong at home at Harden.

“We are back to the start of the competition again. We played everyone once and we are sitting on top of the ladder at the half way point.

Googong are struggling and it’s expected there will be tries Galore in the mens. Lizards are coming off a 68-0 thrashing by Crookwell in the ladies.
