Devils Donate To Can Assist

Devils, Oliver Fairfield-Smith, President Charlie Brown left and Jack Alcorn right with Can Assist representatives Sonia Fredericks, Carol Barker and Jill Berney receiving a donation from the Devils Club of $4585 on Saturday.

Saturday was Juniors Day at Roberts Park, and what a day it was for the Red Devils community.
The Devils are proud to support Can Assist Harden and were able to present a cheque on the day to Can Assist. These funds were raised at the Harden Red Devils Golf Day held in February.

Coach Jack Alcorn said, “A huge thank you to our incredible community for your ongoing support. The afternoon kicked off with junior games, along with the U14s and U16s taking on our Women’s side during their bye round. Every game was played in great spirit, and it was awesome to see the next generation of Devils ripping in. Then it was time for the mens game, with the Harden taking on a tough Cootamundra outfit.

As expected, it was a physical contest from the opening whistle. Coota struck first with a penalty goal, after a grinding opening 15 minutes, but the Devils responded quickly through Oliver Fairfield-Smith, who crossed for Harden’s first try to put the score at 7-3.

“We had a win against Coota 33-10. It was a hard fought win. We got a couple of good tries at the end that made the score blow out, but it was a really tough physical match and Coota really held their own.

“It was really good to see Coota back to the great club they are and it was a pleasure playing them.

“I think that they’ve worked hard and they’ve got a lot of locals and players back, which is really good.

“It was really good playing them and it’s a really fresh start, which is good.

“Our fitness probably got us over the line, and they just had a couple of things at the end, a couple of mistakes that happened and we were able to capitalise with our fitness and speed.

“The first half stayed tight, with both sides throwing plenty at each other before Harden took a 21-10 lead into the break.

The Devils found another gear in the second half, defending strongly and shutting down repeated attacks from Cootamundra. Harden then piled on two more cracking tries with Harry Shea grabbing an intercept try and Logan Hayden finished off another brilliant team effort out wide.

The Devils gave a huge thank you to Coota for making the trip across, and to everyone who came down to support a fantastic day of footy at Roberts Park.
