Murrumburrah Light Horse Troop Leads Heartfelt ANZAC Day Service

The Murrumburrah community came together on Saturday following the service in Harden to see the Light Horse Troop make their way down the hill for a moving ANZAC Day commemoration service.

Organised by the Murrumburrah Light Horse Troop, Emily Maher served as Master of Ceremony, guiding the proceedings with dignity and respect.

Jennifer Lawler, Lay Presider from the Uniting Church, delivered the opening Prayer. Principal Penny Lucas from Trinity Primary School gave a touching reading of the poem To a Comrade.

Wreaths were laid in honour of Australia’s and New Zealand’s fallen service men and women. The assembly stood and faced west for the Last Post, followed by a minute’s silence.

Tim O’Keefe of the Harden-Murrumburrah RSL Chapter recited the Ode to the Fallen.

The gathering responded in unison: “We will remember them. Lest we forget.”

The assembly then faced east for the Rouse as flags were hoisted. They turned to face the centre to sing the Australian National Anthem, led by Anne Maher.

Following the formal service, attendees were invited to cross the road to the Bill the Bastard statue to officially acknowledge a new seat that had recently been erected close by. The iconic statue of the famous Australian war horse and the new seating provided a fitting place for quiet reflection and continued remembrance.

The service served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by generations of service personnel and the enduring importance of honouring their memory.

“Lest we forget.”
