• 7:30 PM: First Grade tackle
Bar and BBQ available. It will all be for a gold coin donation.
President Stephen Howse said it will be a great night for mates, taking the kids or just enjoying a community night.
“We are actually playing for what’s called the Peter Leitner Cup. Peter Leitner was a famous player who played for Harden and Cootamundra, and he won a competition with Cootamundra in 1990,” he said.
“He died a few years ago. He was such a great player and Clubman for both clubs, so we struck this trophy. In 2024, the last year, we played in the George Tooke Shield, we won it. Last year, of course, we were back in Group 9, and so we thought we’ll get in contact with Harden and see if we can continue the tradition of the Peter Leitner Cup, and they seemed happy with that idea.
“It would be a trial, mainly reserve-grade players. There’s a lot of young blokes getting an opportunity from under-18s last year and a few that are eligible for under-18s this year, so it’s a pretty young side.
“Preseason training for the Bulldogs has been very positive. The numbers have been good. Luke Berkery, our new coach, has just brought a different demographic and a very professional outlook to the training. They recently had a camp up at Talbingo. They went up on Saturday, came back on Sunday. By all reports it was a really, really good weekend for them. It was kind of a boot camp type of thing.
“It is all coming along nicely, but we are always chasing more numbers. A few more regos would be good, because you never know what your season’s going to entail.
“There are always a few that wait till touch football and cricket’s over before they come to training.
“We’ve recently come back to Group 9. We are a really well-run club, we have got four grades, under 18’s, league tag, reserves and first grade, so you’re going to find a run there somewhere.
“It’s not just men and young men we’re looking for, it’s girls as well, prepared to play league tag. Come down and register or come to training, have a run and see what you think. There’s benefits in everything, you’ll get fit, meet a lot of new people and enjoy the benefits of being in a good club.
“We have got or Sportman’s lunch, which is on the 28th of March.
“Our Under 18’s have also got a trial against West Belconnen Under 18’s in Temora.
“The Sportsman’s lunch, we’ve got ex-Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh attending. Robbie Farah, of course, played many games for the Tigers and Souths, New South Wales and Australia. We are always looking for more numbers and tables for that.
“It is going to be good. It’s on a Saturday, which is even better, so you’ve got Sunday off to recover from it. We’ve got a lot of auction items and lucky door prizes, and you will be able to hear two really successful Australian sportsmen speak.”
