On Thursday 19 March, Murrumburrah Public School came alive with colour, laughter and community spirit as students, families and local organisations gathered for the highly successful Community Colour Shuffle.
Perfectly aligned with the NSW Seniors Festival 2026 theme, “Live Life in Colour,” the event was a vibrant expression of connection across generations. While centred at the school, the Colour Shuffle brought together people of all ages, reflecting the Senior Festival’s focus on inclusion, active participation and celebrating the important role seniors play in community life.
Participants tackled the course mostly in white, quickly becoming covered in bursts of colour along the way. The atmosphere was electric, with music, cheering and plenty of smiles creating a memorable experience for everyone involved. Families, volunteers and community members of all ages turned out, reinforcing the event as a true whole-of-community celebration.
Adding to the day’s energy was a special performance by the Cootamundra Line Dancers, who not only entertained the crowd but also invited both seniors and young people to join in and learn a line dance. It was just another way the day brought generations together through fun, movement and shared experience.
Rotary ran a popular BBQ with the support of Murrumburrah Public School staff. Sausage sandwiches and refreshments were enjoyed by all, providing an opportunity for people to connect and relax before the Colour Shuffle kicked off.
A key strength of the Colour Shuffle was the collaboration behind it. Murrumburrah Public School and Flexible Care Services worked closely with Trinity Catholic Primary School, Bunyip Preschool, community groups and volunteers to deliver an event that extended well beyond the classroom. The involvement of parents, carers and seniors highlighted the depth of community connection and the shared commitment to creating positive experiences for young people.
Importantly, the event brought the NSW Seniors Festival theme to life in a practical and meaningful way. By encouraging intergenerational participation and celebrating community spirit, the Colour Shuffle demonstrated how local events can support broader regional initiatives while delivering real impact on the ground.
The success of the Community Colour Shuffle is a clear example of what can be achieved through collaboration. From planning through to participation, it showcased the energy, generosity and inclusiveness that define the twin towns.
With overwhelmingly positive feedback, the event has firmly established itself as one that may well become a regular feature on the community event calendar. The day showed when a community comes together, it truly can live life in colour.
