After 15 months of closure, the historic Wombat Hotel is set to re-open its doors on Friday, 24 October 2025, marking the return of one of the region’s most loved landmarks.
New owners, Les and Rae, have spent the past few months working tirelessly to bring the old pub back to life — carefully restoring its charm, refreshing its spaces, and preparing to welcome locals and travellers once again.
“The Wombat Hotel has always been the heart of this little village,” said Rae, co-owner.
“It’s more than just a pub — it’s a meeting place, a home for stories, and a proud part of the town’s history. We can’t wait to see the verandah full and the beer taps flowing again.”

Built in the 1800s and known as the longest continuously licensed premises in New South Wales, the Wombat Hotel holds a special place in the region’s heritage. With its familiar wraparound verandah, hearty meals and country hospitality, the hotel has long been a favourite stop for locals, visitors and cherry-pickers travelling through the Hilltops region.
The reopening on Friday, 24 Oc-tober will welcome guests back once more – a true community event to mark the beginning of a new chapter for this iconic country pub.
“Wombat might be small,” added Les, “but it’s got a big heart. We’ve worked hard to honour its history while giving it a fresh start. We’ve been overwhelmed by the generous support of the locals. We’re excited to throw open the doors and see familiar faces again.”
For those planning a visit, the Wombat Hotel is located in the heart of Wombat village, just outside Young, NSW, surrounded by the rolling countryside and cherry orchards the region is famous for.
