The big birthday party for St Paul’s Anglican Church is almost upon us. Saturday marks the beginning of when St Paul’s invites everyone to an Open Day.
Around 10am the day will begin with games for the children and perhaps a few of the grown-ups will join in.
Don Jamieson will present a talk in the church about the history of St Paul’s and as well there is a display of photos and memorabilia of the 150 years of the church’s history.
At around 11.30am a tree will be planted in honour of Lay Reader John Miller, who began the parish when he moved to the area in 1874 with his wife and nine children to begin parishes in Cootamundra and Murrumburrah. The tree will be planted by three of Miller’s great, great, great-grandchildren.
There is also a poster competition and school children have been given drawings to colour and bring along on Saturday. Prizes will be awarded.
Lunch will be provided, and the Hilltops choir will sing for everyone after lunch and the history talk will be repeated for those who missed it in the morning.
Then on Sunday, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn, the Rt. Rev. Dr Mark Short will be the main guest at the celebration service at 10am. The Bishop will plant a tree to mark the 150th birthday and a cake will be cut. A light lunch will be provided for everyone.
The congregation of St Paul’s invites you to come along and join in one or both of the days. We ask those attending to park along the roadside as there will be no parking in the grounds.
