The Harden Kite Festival is being held on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Harden Racecourse, including the usual attractions and festivities like entertainment, market stalls, workshops, cultural performances, kite decorating workshops and a kids activity alley.
You can enjoy unlimited rides with the all-day ride pass. Bring your own kite or buy one on the day. Entry is a $2 donation per person, all-day ride passes are $25 and 3 for $60.
David Munnerley, the Tourism & Events Coordinator of Council gave the Twin Town Times an update on this weekend’s event.
“Everything is ready to go for the Kite Festival. The race course is looking fantastic. The weather’s shaping up to be a great weekend with some quite strong winds by the looks of it. It’s coming along really nicely for the 20th anniversary of the Harden Kite Festival,” he said.
“We have the usual food trucks, market stalls, and kites. We’ve got a massive lineup this year. From the main stage, we start with the Young Town Band. We’ve got the ever-popular favourite the Kapooka Army band, the official opening, which will be conducted by the Hilltops Mayor and Deputy Mayor, as well as member for Riverina Michael McCormack. Don’t miss out on the Prospect Mountain line dancers, and last year’s favourite was the Little Riverina band, who are here again, and they are sensational. We have a local dance troupe, Dancing with Miss M and to finish the day off, we have the voice of Jane Dee performing.
“We have also got a massive kite display all set out ready for people to come and enjoy the big kites. You can make a kite yourself and get out there and enjoy the day. Naturally, we’ve got the food stalls and all-day ride passes available for everyone to come and enjoy a family fun-filled, affordable day.”
David said it was always satisfying to see everything all come together on the day.
“It absolutely pulls the heart-strings. Community events like this and major festivals like this are really the heart of the community. While it boosts a lot for the local economy, it also shows off what this region has to offer with its natural beauty, and Harden certainly has some really good natural beauty out there ready to show off the Hilltops region.”
Hilltops Council has notified the community that Harden Airport will be closed during the event. During this time, all aircraft operations will be suspended to ensure the safety of festival attendees and participants. Council appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the aviation community during this event.
The Kite Festival committee are committed to keeping it an affordable, family-friendly annual event.
