On Saturday, the Harden CWA branch held their Springtime High Tea, which was a great success, despite it also coinciding with the local Grand Final of the Hawks and Hawkettes. Congratulations to the Hawkettes on their great win!
Ros Bickford, the Secretary of the CWA branch, spoke about the operations of the CWA branch and thanked the community for their ongoing support of the activities that the CWA put on over the past 12 months.
Ros advised that for the past couple of years, the branch’s fundraising efforts had focused on supporting victims of domestic and family violence throughout the district. However, this year the branch members decided to support Bunyip Preschool, which sustained a great deal of damage due to the hailstorm that hit in February. Profits from the High Tea and associated raffle are to be donated to Bunyip Preschool.
Ros then went on to introduce and thank the members who made the event possible – Karyn Grey, who organised the catering and did much of the cooking herself, ably assisted by her sister Lauren Irving, Tammy Cameron who kept the finances in order, Judy Shea and Jacqui Carter who helped on the day and Nettie Donnely who took the bookings and organised the games. A rousing round of applause was given for their efforts.
The CWA branch also held a raffle, which was won by Geraldine Gore from Canimbla – it was also her birthday, so everyone sang Happy Birthday to her!
On Friday, 26 September, the CWA branch is hosting representatives from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm. These representatives want to talk to as many people as possible from the area to understand any barriers and gaps that exist relating to the availability and provision of medical and aged care services. An invitation is extended to everyone to come along and share their views and stories.
