The Hilltops Choir performing in June at Harden Grange for World Music Day.
Saturday the 23rd August will be something to sing about, as the district’s Hilltops Choir teams up with the Canberra Community Voices to present a special choral concert in the Ross Memorial Church, Murrumburrah (now centrally heated).
The concert will be for around one hour with start time being 2.00 pm. Admission will be via a donation at the door.
Prior to the concert, members of both choirs will meet in the adjacent church hall for a midday lunch, followed by a joint workshop to be conducted by Canberra-based musical director Rodney Clancy. Rodney directed the Hilltops Choir for a number of years after which this job went to local musician Stewart Bruce. Rodney now directs the Canberra Community Voices and has Stewart as his regular weekly accompanist.
“With these various connections and a number of songs in common, it seemed like a no-brainer to bring both choirs together for musical development, performance and camaraderie” commented Stewart.
“The aim is to have a workshop and recital for both choirs in Murrumburrah, and then a reciprocal visit to Canberra later on. The workshop will focus on two items to be sung as massed choir numbers. Then each choir will also perform some of their own repertoire at the concert” Stewart added.
