On Saturday, July 26, the Harden Murrumburrah Rugby League Football Club hosted its highly anticipated annual Ladies Day and Charity Day, an event that brought together players, supporters, and the local community for an afternoon filled with rugby, fundraising, and celebration.
A highlight of the day was the charity auction of specially designed jumpers worn by the players, as well as raffle sales and generous donations. Through these efforts, the event raised an impressive $2,500 for Harden Can Assist, a local charity that provides crucial financial and practical support to families facing cancer treatment.
Members of Can Assist volunteered at the canteen, ensuring the ladies could fully enjoy the event.
In a heartfelt message, the charity expressed its gratitude to the Hawks for their ongoing support. “The funds raised goes directly to helping local families as they navigate the challenges of cancer treatment,” said Hawkettes Captain Georgia Smith.
The day also showcased the strength of the local rugby community. The Hawkettes, not only supported the charity but also took to the field for a thrilling match against their rivals, Crookwell, a team they faced in last year’s grand final. It was a high-energy game, with extra emotion added due to the rematch nature of the event.
“We were all excited for the game, especially with it being a grand final rematch. There was a bit of extra fire in the air,” said Georgia, who led the team onto the field in their distinctive Ladies Day kit. The Hawkettes went on to give a strong performance. The day’s success was a reflection of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Organisers were thrilled with the turnout, which included 17 players and a large crowd of local supporters.
“We have such a strong, community-based club,” said Georgia. “It’s events like these that really bring us together. The ladies in our club do so much behind the scenes, and it’s wonderful to see everyone come together for a great cause.”
With over $2,500 raised for Harden Can Assist, this year’s Ladies Day was yet another resounding success for the Hawks, and a testament to the power of community support in local rugby league.
