Harden Men’s Shed Host Prostate Cancer Presentation

The Harden Men’s Shed will be hosting a special community presentation on Friday, July 26 at 12:30pm, focusing on men’s health and one local man’s journey with prostate cancer.

The event will take place at the Men’s Shed premises and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.

The featured speaker will be Jim Ryan, a Rotarian with a background in farming, who will share his personal experience with prostate cancer. Jim has been involved in raising awareness around men’s health for some time, but his advocacy took on a more personal tone after he was diagnosed with the illness himself.

“Jim’s presentation is really just a talk about his journey,” explains Steve Stone, Treasurer of the Harden Men’s Shed. “It wasn’t originally Jim’s idea but Karen from Rotary introduced the idea to us. She mentioned that Jim had recently given a presentation to the Rotary Club, and we thought it would be a good fit for us to host something similar.”

The Men’s Shed has long been a place where blokes come together not just to build and fix things, but to connect, talk, and support each other. Steve says the decision to host the presentation was a natural one.

“Men’s Sheds aren’t just about woodworking, they’re also about men’s health, wellbeing, and connection. If we can use our space to help even one person feel less alone or more informed, that’s worth it.”

The presentation will be followed by afternoon tea and a tour of the shed, offering guests a chance to see what the Men’s Shed is all about.

While the group has been involved in some hands-on projects lately including building a cabinet for Trinity Catholic School Steve says most of the value lies in the simple things.

“People often ask us to fix things, and we give it a go if we can. But most of the time, it’s about having a chat, a cuppa, and some company.”

The Harden Men’s Shed encourages anyone interested men and women alike to come along to the presentation and take part in the conversation about a health issue that affects thousands of Australian men each year.
