The Harden Red Devils continued their stellar season with a convincing 43-26 victory over the Young Yabbies on the weekend, extending their undefeated streak to six wins.
The match, which was an away game played in Young, started with a bang for Harden. The Red Devils struck early, crossing the line twice within the opening minutes to set the tone for the encounter. However, the Young Yabbies were not content to roll over. The Home team clawed their way back into the contest with several tries of their own, keeping the halftime score to a competitive 19-12 in Harden’s favour.
Red Devils coach Jack Alcorn praised his side’s resilience and all-around effort. “We got off to a really strong start with those early tries, but to Young’s credit, they came back at us hard. We stuck to our game plan and kept building pressure, and that got us over the line,” Alcorn said.
“It was a whole team performance, and I’m really proud of how the boys stood up.”
The coach also singled out several of the team’s emerging talents, including young backs Ollie Minehan and Jack Glover, who have made significant contributions since joining the side.
“They’re both young and new to the squad, but they’re already making a real impact,” Alcorn noted.
The try scorers for Harden reflected the team’s depth and attacking prowess. Oliver Fairfield-Smith crossed for two tries, while Will Glover, Ollie Minehan, Luke Thorsby, Jeremy Martin, and Joe Stewart all added to the tally. Jack Glover impressed with the boot, converting four out of seven attempts.
Looking ahead, Alcorn was quick to acknowledge the challenge that lies ahead, with a top-of-the-table clash looming against Boorowa this weekend.
“We’ve got Boorowa next, and they’re also undefeated. It’s going to be a huge game. We’re not planning to let up at all the boys know we’ve got to keep doing what we’ve been doing and not take the foot off the gas,” he said.
Following the Boorowa clash, Harden will face off against Cootamundra after the long weekend stretch that could define the Red Devils’ season. With confidence high and the team clicking on all fronts, Harden supporters will be hoping their side can continue their red-hot form into the heart of the season.
