Coach Jack Alcorn crashes over vs the Young Yabbies in a previous season.
The Harden Red Devils showed their class on the weekend as they continued their perfect start to the season with a 40-0 win over the Condobolin Rams on Saturday.
The men in red put on a show for the first home game of the season. They started fast-paced with Condo muscling up and putting in some strong defence. It wasn’t long though before Olly Minehan managed to get a quick two tries down the left wing, taking the Devils to a 12-0 lead early. Through the rest of the first half, the Devils executed their new structure perfectly capitalising on opportunities when they arose.
The highlight of the first half was a line break from Nick Alcorn off of a kick which was supported by flying prop Oliver Murphy who went on to score a cracking try.
The second half was a tough grind, the Devils still managed to cross over for 2 more tries. Condoblin never gave up all game and are a great addition to the South West Fuels Cup this season.
Coach Jack Alcorn was pleased with his team’s effort.

“I think we certainly controlled some early stages of the game throughout the first half. We were pretty much in control, Condo never really got too much of a chance, any time they had the ball we were all over them, still it was a really good, well played game,” Jack said.
“They (Condobolin) came back on with a bit more ticker in the second half and gave us a much more competitive game. They held us to two tries in the second half.”
The Devils will play the Temora Tuskers in Temora this weekend. The Tuskers will be hoping to bounce back after a 44-0 walloping at the hands of the Cootamundra Tri-Colours.
“They (Temora) beat Young in the first week which is a pretty good effort, even though Young only just beat West Wyalong 24-14 which I wouldn’t necessarily classify as an accomplishment given last season’s table but Temora can still take merit from being last years winners,” he said.
“It is a bit of a confidence boost for us boys having a few big wins at the start of the season, but it is unpredictable having Temora win against Young and then go down to Cootamundra you’re not sure what any team is going to bring on the day, it makes for a great competition.
“I think there’s going to be a fair few close games, not that there wasn’t last year, but I think some of the teams that have slowly been getting better like Temora and West Wyalong to go down 24-14 to Young is not a bad effort at all.
“It will be a tough game, it always is, regardless of the scoreline you always come out with a few battered and bruised bodies.
“We’ve got a few younger fellas in and they also have a different way of looking at things and we are playing a different structure to what we have been. A few little changeups like that and being able to play faster smarter footy certainly helps.”
