Touch Football Heats Up

The excitement is building as the Harden Touch Footy competition enters its final stretch, with four weeks of thrilling finals set to kick off this Thursday evening.

According to club secretary, Allison Manwaring, the competition has been a huge success so far, with local players enjoying another action-packed season.

“We’ve had six competition rounds this year, and now we’re heading into the finals,” said Manwaring.

“The top team in each of the four grades will get the week off to rest up and prepare for the upcoming elimination matches.”

This season, the A and B grades feature six teams each, while the C and D grades have five teams each. The finals will see the six place getters in A and B grades facing off in crossover friendly matches, ensuring everyone gets a chance to play and stay active.

After this, the real eliminations will begin, as teams battle it out for the championship titles.

The summer competition, which began in October last year, has seen a significant turnout, with 22 teams registered this season. The first half of the competition saw teams graded based on last year’s results, followed by a regrading for the second half. This ensures that the finals reflect teams’ true capabilities, with results based on points earned throughout the competition.

One of the unique aspects of Harden’s Touch Footy is its inclusivity. The competition welcomes players as young as nine, and many families have gotten involved, creating a fun, community focused atmosphere.

“It’s a family oriented night, with kids and adults all joining in,” said Manwaring.

“We have a barbecue on the sidelines, so it’s a great way for families to spend time together while supporting the players.”

The competition has been particularly popular among local residents, who enjoy the opportunity to compete with friends and neighbours in a relaxed but competitive environment. With its family-friendly vibe, touch footy has become a beloved tradition in the commu-nity, offering something for every-one, regardless of age or skill level.

As the finals approach, all eyes are on the top teams, but Manwaring is quick to emphasise the importance of the community’s participation.

“It’s not just about who wins, it’s about bringing people together,” she said. “We’ve had great support from local families, and that’s what makes this competition special.”

The first round of finals will take place this Thursday, with matches scheduled to begin at 6:30pm. Families, players, and supporters are encouraged to come along and cheer on their teams as the competition reaches its exciting climax.

Following the completion of our comp games last Thursday, final placings have now been determined.

In all grades points for and against were needed to separate teams into their final placings in their respective grades.
