When a set of original drawings were made available to the general public of the Twin Town area and surrounds, Coddington Park looked like it may have millions spent on it and would look like millions of dollars had been spent on it also. However, when the tenders came in at over twice Council’s budget and Council were forced to undertake, and more to the point, oversee the project, Coddington Park fell apart.
Fish ladders were one costly addition worth tens of thousands of dollars yet the creek hasn’t stocked a native fish that anyone is aware of. The ladders may have helped the invasive European Carp at some stage, but even they would struggle to get up stream over the northern part of the fish ladders now, and over the cause-way.
The Times is taking an intense focus on what is occurring in the Hilltops Council area. In Harden it’s the simple things such as lack of eftpos at the local pool, no workable locks on the ladies toilets in Newson Park. Grass that gets cut when its two or three feet long, not when it needs cutting. Gutters and drains that aren’t cleaned out after rain events. Just the little things that add up to the township and surrounding villages providing lower and lower services that mean a lower quality of life and lower aesthetic. Less people wanting to live here.
We the people of the Twin Towns are proud of our town and respect the Council staff who work in it, but when they are asked to do more and more with less and less, and are gagged with risk their job may be under pressure, we will speak up for them.
